SPIRONOLACTONE (Aldactone®) is a diuretic. Diuretics increase the amount of urine passed, which causes the body to lose water and salt. Spironolactone helps to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is not a cure. It also reduces the swelling and water retention caused by various medical conditions, such as heart, liver, or kidney disease.
RIVASTIGMINE (Exelon®) is used for treating mild to moderate dementia (eg, impairment of memory or judgement, abstract thinking, changes in personality) in patients with Alzheimer disease or Parkinson disease.Exelon is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by increasing the amount of a certain substance (acetylcholine) in the brain.
AZATHIOPRINE (Imuran®) is an immunosuppressive agent. It can suppress or reduce the body's natural immunity, making it less able to fight infections and preventing the rejection of "foreign bodies". Azathioprine reduces unwanted immune responses and helps to prevent rejection in patients who receive organ transplants. The response of the immune system may contribute to arthritis, and azathioprine helps to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis.
NIMODIPINE (Nimotop®) is a calcium-channel blocker. It affects the flow of calcium in and out of certain cells in your body and relaxes blood vessels. Nimodipine is used to treat subarachnoid hemorrhage, a condition in which severe headaches and stiff neck are caused by bleeding into the space around the brain.
DIPYRIDAMOLE (Persantine®) helps to diagnose possible blockage to the blood vessels that supply your heart. It shows how well blood is flowing to your heart and can help your prescriber or health care professional to decide the best treatment.
A generic drug (pl. generic drugs, short: generics) is a drug which is produced and distributed without patent protection. A generic must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. In most cases, it is considered bioequivalent to the brand name counterpart with respect to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. By extension, therefore, generics are assumed to be identical in dose, strength, route of administration, safety, efficacy, and intended use.
